Twitter!

Not an application for documenting your every intimate detail. Twitter is a great way to keep people informed of updates on your website, sending out invitations/reminders for events, and to share links that interested you and might be valuable to people who are like-minded. Many people don’t use RSS feeds, but they will follow you on twitter.
Twitter is also great as a resource for you! You can follow galleries and organizations to stay updated on events and special offers. You can follow other artists who post good resources. You can follow anyone for immediate information about what is going on, such as politicians…
Twitter is free and easy to get started with. Posts are limited to 140 characters so it’s easy to browse frequently.
Add a button to your website so viewers can easily tweet the link: http://twitter.com/about/resources/tweetbutton
Here are my recommended accounts to start following:
@EmilyCarrPR, @AllianceArts, and @VanArtGallery are very active
Pretty much every gallery in Vancouver also has their own account if you just look for the ones that interest you @gruntgallery, @pittgallery, @221Aweeee, @Belkin_Gallery
You can tweet from your phone any time via sms or smartphone applications. New to twitter is also the ability to tweet photos.

  1. I also want to mention one of the good/bad things about twitter... tweets show up right away in google searches! So this means don't tweet things that you wouldn't want people to see when they google you. Do tweet interesting things and link your twitter account to your website because if you use a blog as your website it will be difficult to find in a google search.
