Downside of Social Media
This is an interesting article from The Sydney Morning Herald concerning social media applications affecting us in a negative manner. The questions that the article poses at the end really struck a chord with me, as I answered yes to all the yes/no questions. In terms of marketing the artist, these issues can affect your ability to market yourself as well. Being overly concerned and letting these social media platforms affect you in the way the article suggests is definitely an issue and although generally speaking, social media is thought of as a positive platform for starting a career and putting yourself out into the world, the negative aspects are not usually thought about. Getting too caught up in all the latest applications and newest technologies may only leave you with too much to keep up with instead of putting more effort into a few platforms. Additionally, letting websites and technological media do all the work for you isn't the right idea, as this may hurt your abilities in the real world of socializing. Don't forget that marketing yourself also means for you to literally put yourself out there and create interpersonal skills, not just from the comforts in front of your computer screen or cell phone.
